This time the Orioles won, 3-1, as Hall of Famers Brooks Robinson and Frank Robinson were the stars. The Cubs scored their run in the first inning of the three-inning game when Don Kessinger doubled, advanced to third on Glenn Beckert's grounder and scored when Mike Cuellar uncorked a wild pitch with Ron Santo at bat. Ernie Banks, the Cubs' member of the Hall of Fame, received the biggest ovation, but grounded out and flied out. The Cub Old Timers rehashed the theories of why they failed to win the pennant 15 years ago, although they were in first place most of 1969 before the Amazin' Mets overhauled them. One theory was that Manager Leo Durocher had a tired team as the season progressed because he refused to rest his players and they simply wore out playing day games at home in the hot sun.

Another was the Mets simply put on a stretch drive that was too much for any team to match. 1. 13.
