Funeral services have been set for Erika Dalquist, the 21-year-old whose remains were found after her disappearance from downtown Brainerd 18 months ago. The service will be June 4 at Lakewood Free Church on Baxter. Dalquist's uncle, Pat Boone, said, “This will be the closing of this chapter for the family.”

Faced with the possible loss of $125,000, an angry group of exhibitors and fewer than expected fishermen has made Tim Manion unhappy, to say the least. He is the main promoter of the World Championship Walleye Tournament on Mille Lacs Lake which was beset by troubles.

60 years ago (1964)

The Flying Farmers of Minnesota will hold their annual state convention in Brainerd on June 12-14. Headquarters is the Pine Hotel, with meetings scheduled for the Elks building, Legion hall and Van's Cafe. It is expected that nearly 200 persons will attend, and that up to 60 planes will land in Brainerd.

80 years ago (1944)

Combination envelope-letterheads for writing to POWs in both Germany and Japan are now available free of charge says postmaster Joe Dunn, but a six-cent postage stamp must go on each envelope. Letters to prisoners in Japan are limited to just 25 words, but letters to POWs in Germany may have as many words as can fit on the page.

100 years ago (1924)

Last rites for Charles Lindbergh, Sr., prominent politician, were held today. He lived for many years in Little Falls before moving to Crookston. He was diagnosed with a brain tumor the Mayo Clinic said was inoperable. He was cremated, and his ashes will be spread from a plane flown by his son, Charles Lindbergh, Jr., currently with the Army Aviation in Texas.

It was used for hauling freight from the NP (Northern Pacific Railroad) depot to stores around town as well as for other kinds of moving.
