James Joseph Mueller

Portage County obituaries for May 24-28 (1)

James Joseph Mueller, age 80 of Twinsburg, OH, passed away on Armed Forces Day, Saturday, May 18, 2024. He is the beloved husband of Elaine (nee Case); and brother of the late Mary Ellen Mueller.

Jim was born January 7, 1944 to Edward and Mabel (nee Crowley) Mueller and was born and raised on Cleveland’s West Side. Jim served four years in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Upon his return, he became a member of the American Legion and served as a color guard, riffle team, and chaplain for Post 685 in Streetsboro, OH. He was a proud member for 36 years.

Jim also worked on the Great Lakes freighters before hiring on as a conductor for the Erie Lackawanna Railroad. From there he went to Conrail before retiring from Norfolk Southern in 2006. He briefly worked at Nestle/Stouffer’s warehouse in Solon for 13 years during his railroad layoff. It was there that he met his future wife, Elaine, and they married in 1989.

Jim enjoyed reading the daily newspapers, fishing, country music, history, and politics. He was a huge Ohio State Buckeyes fan and rooted for the Cleveland Browns and Guardians as well.

Jim and Elaine traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and the world. They enjoyed celebrating their annual St. Paddy’s Day wedding anniversary all over the U.S. and even Ireland for their 25th.

Jim will be remembered for his sports enthusiasm and love of a St. Paddy’s Day celebration and parade.

Friends will be received 12-1:30 PM, Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at Johnson-Romito Funeral Home, 9819 Darrow Rd. (Corner of Rt. 91 and Post Rd.), Twinsburg, OH where services will begin at 1:30 p.m. Interment to follow at Crown Hill Memorial Park.

Jeffery J. Childers

Jeffery J. Childers, 74, passed away peacefully at home May 17, 2024 surrounded by his family. Born in Akron, Ohio to Harry and Pat (Gordon) Childers, he resided in Suffield Township, Ohio most of his life. Jeff was a U.S. Army Veteran and he retired from the Cuyahoga Falls Police Department at the rank of Lieutenant in 2007 after 35 years of service. After retirement he was involved in the Cuyahoga Falls F.O.P. Lodge #49, the Suffield Township Zoning Commission and PARTA. Jeff enjoyed road trips in his Corvette and taking pictures along the way, boating on the Portage Lakes and collecting books, model trains and spice tins. Most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids.

In addition to his parents, Jeff was preceded in death by his sister, Linda Childers. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 44 years, Amanda; children, David (Bethany) Childers, Katie (Jim) Suffolk, Jenny Childers, Jeffery (Stacey) Childers; grandchildren, Emily, Joelle, Ava, Ivy, Ashley, Erin, Mark, Cindy, Nick, Jackie; brothers, Dave (Mary) Childers, Charlie Childers; best neighbors ever, Mike and Robin Nelson; best friend, Dave Gould; several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to visit Wednesday, May 22, 2024 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Newcomer, Akron Chapel, 131 N. Canton Rd. The funeral mass will take place Thursday, May 23 at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph Church, 2643 Waterloo Rd., Randolph, with Father Coulter officiating. Those who wish may make memorial donations in Jeff’s name to Hospice of the Western Reserve or the Cuyahoga Falls & Silver Lake Police Memorial & Honor Guard Foundation.
