I plowed through the epic mess that is the assembly manual twice and did not find them. On my car they are doing nothing except plugging two holes.

No stereo in this car ever, that I'm certain of. Have never lived in the past, but arrived there recently

Has similar grommet thingies on the firewall. Hard to see but easier if you zoom in. Possibility?

The bolts kind of screw up the theory, though. Or maybe not...I picked up on your search idea and looked at about 50 engine compartments. I didn't find a full size with anything like these things, they are definitely not factory, but I did find a Chevelle wagon with a 283 and aftermarket A/C that has firewall hose connections which look very similar. My car was born with a 283; it's possible that an under dash A/C unit and compressor were removed when the 409 was swapped in.

I chiseled them out, replaced one with a sheet metal hole plug, will use the remaining hole to route non-stock wiring and gauge connections, much better than punching holes in my brand new firewall pad. I don't have a tank, I think you're looking at the Chevelle photo I found online. Have never lived in the past, but arrived there recently Edited by Endless64 on 05-22-24 01:18 PM.
