Vegan tzatziki sauce has been a staple in our house for years. It's perfect as a dip with pita bread and vegetables or as a drizzle on wraps.
Tzatziki is a cucumber and yogurt based sauce or dip commonly served in Greek cuisine. My dairy free version is just as tangy, creamy, and delicious!

Equipment
- Grater: This grater is large, feels safe, and is easy to use.
- Garlic press: This press is comfortable and durable.
- Lemon squeezer: This citrus juicer has lasted me years!
- Cheesecloth: This set of cheesecloths are reusable and unbleached.
Ingredients
This is my variation on the popular Greek sauce! Authentic tzatziki is commonly made with sheep or goat yogurt, but my recipe calls for vegan yogurt, due to being dairy free.
- Dairy free yogurt: Look for unflavored and unsweetened non dairy yogurt at your grocery store.
- Cucumber: Grab a large cucumber! It's important to grate the cucumber and strain for a creamy consistency.
- Garlic: If you're a garlic lover, add in another garlic clove or two!
- Lemon juice: I believe that fresh lemon juice is best, but use what you have.
- Fresh herbs: Traditional tzatziki uses both fresh mint and dill. I only had fresh dill on hand, so that's what I used! Feel free to stir in fresh mint as well for a bright finish.
- Salt and pepper
Best Vegan Yogurt for Tzatziki
The good news is, we have options!! For many years, I had to rely on the same two decent vegan yogurts to get the job done. These days, we have selections ranging from soy-based to coconut milk alternatives and beyond.
If you're looking for a coconut-based yogurt, check out Culina, CoYo, or So Delicious coconut yogurt alternatives.
I'm also a big fan of Kite Hill almond milk yogurt. They even have Greek-style plant based yogurt, made with almond milk and soy.
How To Make Tzatziki Vegan
This 6 ingredient vegan tzatziki is going to become your go-to dip in no time!
- Grate and drain the cucumber.
- Combine vegan yogurt, grated cucumber, chopped fresh dill, minced garlic, lemon juice, salt, and pepper together in a large mixing bowl.
- Stir well to combine!
- Season with salt and pepper.
When I first started making homemade tzatziki, I wouldn't take the extra time to grate the cucumber. Instead, I would just dice it up into small pieces and call it a day. While I did enjoy that soft bite, grating and straining the cucumber gives this sauce its unbeatable texture and consistency. If you don't have a cheesecloth to drain the grated cucumber, use coffee filters, paper towels, or a clean cloth instead.

How to Serve
Tzatziki is one of my favorite condiments! This garlicky yogurt sauce pairs well with falafels, gyros, skewers, or as a dip with pita and vegetables.
Storage and Reheating
Tzatziki is great for making ahead and for meal prepping! Store tzatziki in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week.
