Tony Dokoupil has American nationality, and his ethnicity is Caucasian. He spent his early years in Miami; born to Anthony Edward Dokoupil and Ann Dokoupil, he was raised in a wealthy family, so he attended private schools, alongside the future, now former US President George Bush’s grandchildren, and went on luxurious vacations. However, everything reversed after it was discovered that his parents were addicted to drugs, and had become rich through involvement with Columbian drug cartels – Tony had believed that his father was a real estate agent. His father was known by the nickname ‘Big Tony’, and he left the family when Tony was a 10-year-old boy, so he moved with his mother to Maryland.

Upon matriculation from Severna Park High School in Maryland in 1999, Tony Dokoupil enrolled into the School of Business at George Washington University. In 2003, he graduated summa cum laude with a BBA degree in Communications and Marketing. A year later, he received a scholarship to finish his Ph.D. in Media Studies; however, he quit to pursue his professional career in the field of journalism.

Tony Dokoupil’s professional career started in 2004, when he got an opportunity to work as a part-time journalist and staff writer in the Periscope section for the magazine ‘Newsweek’. Tony worked in that position for the next three years, and was then promoted to senior writer. He was concurrently hired by The Daily Beast to work as a senior writer as well.

Thanks to his hard work, Tony was offered work as a contributor to NBC News in 2013, where he worked until 2015, when he transferred to the MSNBC network as their national reporter and correspondent.

His father had impressive wealth, but it was hidden in styrofoam coolers in various places, so the family couldn’t recover it.
