Not a bad deal at all, though I did decide to watch for a deal on the higher power brushes that do more movements per minute (4300,5100,6100).
·
Some of the higher end models have a hard plastic button.
I have a 12 year old Diamondclean model HX9340. It's needed a new battery and a few repairs, but I'm handy with stuff like that. It has a hard button. My two previous Philips toothbrushes had rubber buttons and that's the only reason they failed.
Just look at the reviews for all of their models and it shows the story of intentional design decisions to make sure you have to buy another brush every couple of years.
The power cords on these lower end models also deteriorate and become brittle after a couple of years, but it's possible to replace them if you are handy with a soldering iron and screwdriver.
Philips electric toothbrushes are insanely marked up, and have a variety of dark patterns that make the lower end models fail on schedule.
I hope to never have to buy another one from them ever again. I wish the Chinese manufactures would improve their quality just a little more, because some of them are already very decent and comparable with these low-end models.
Update... for $25 from Walgreens, this is probably an okay deal, but it's still expensive considering the actual manufacturing costs. I bought one of those super cheap Chinese no-name brand brushes for $12 about a year ago for work and while it's not as good as my Diamondclean, it gets the job done. Maybe wait for another one of those. I know that Chinese brush is going to outlast one of these because that rubber button will fail eventually, guaranteed.

Speak of the devil, I was cleaning my sonicare just an hour ago and couldn't remove all the mold. Even with a 1 hr baking soda, vinegar soak, the black mold was still fused to the rubber/plastic. I decided to toss it and look here to see if there was a sale. I'm going to now start cleaning my sonicare daily.

The rubber power buttons on these are designed to fail. See review pictures. Don't buy any Philips toothbrush model with a rubber/silicone power button. If it's not hard plastic, it will be destroyed in 3 years or less.

Is it mold? I thought it was just the black rubber. I'm sure it happens to all of them.

I too see a deposit in between the joint of the main machine and the brush head. But it appears more like mineral deposit, like more calcified sort of texture, if I'm able to convey. I always thought it was because of the toothpaste or sth? I do try best to keep it clean.

I bought one of those super cheap Chinese no-name brand brushes for $12 about a year ago for work and while it's not as good as my Diamondclean, it gets the job done. Maybe wait for another one of those. I know that Chinese brush is going to outlast one of these because that rubber button will fail eventually, guaranteed.","hideTimestamp":false,"timestampFormatted":"Yesterday at 06:18 PM.","permalink":"/f/17330040-philips-sonicare-4100-power-toothbrush-rechargeable-electric-toothbrush-with-pressure-sensor-amazon-com-29-96?p=169594509#post169594509","postId":169594509},"commentSectionCommentFooter":{"editedText":"Last edited by BigBG March 3, 2024 at 11:40 PM."},"commentIsHelpful":null,"commentGiveRepPopover":{"username":"BigBG","userAvatar":"/images/avatar/sd/08_200x200.png","headline":"Say Thanks & Give Rep!","subtext":"","authorText":"BigBG posted this comment. \nIs it mold? I thought it was just the black rubber. I'm sure it happens to all of them.","hideTimestamp":false,"timestampFormatted":"Yesterday at 06:24 PM.","permalink":"/f/17330040-philips-sonicare-4100-power-toothbrush-rechargeable-electric-toothbrush-with-pressure-sensor-amazon-com-29-96?p=169594605#post169594605","postId":169594605},"commentSectionCommentFooter":[],"commentIsHelpful":null,"commentGiveRepPopover":{"username":"oghowie","userAvatar":"/attachment/avatar/5/0/6/5/4/7/150x150/avatar.normal?dateline=1441207500","headline":"Say Thanks & Give Rep!","subtext":"","authorText":"oghowie posted this comment. \nI too see a deposit in between the joint of the main machine and the brush head. But it appears more like mineral deposit, like more calcified sort of texture, if I'm able to convey. I always thought it was because of the toothpaste or sth? I do try best to keep it clean.","hideTimestamp":false,"timestampFormatted":"Yesterday at 07:32 PM.","permalink":"/f/17330040-philips-sonicare-4100-power-toothbrush-rechargeable-electric-toothbrush-with-pressure-sensor-amazon-com-29-96?p=169595391#post169595391","postId":169595391},"commentSectionCommentFooter":[],"commentIsHelpful":null,"commentGiveRepPopover":{"username":"abi.ra","userAvatar":"/images/avatar/sd/redesign/Deal-Tag.png","headline":"Say Thanks & Give Rep!","subtext":"","authorText":"abi.ra posted this comment.
