Summary of Job Duties: The Early Childhood Mental Health Specialist works under the supervision on the Disabilities/Mental Health Manager providing behavior management support to teachers and children. In collaboration with the Disabilities/Mental Health Manager, the Early Childhood Mental Health Specialist provides hands on support for children with challenging behaviors that interfere or limit their ability to participate and learn in the classroom or pose a safety risk to themselves or others.
Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education or related degree and minimum of one year experience working in an early childhood classroom supporting children's social emotional development. the field.
  • Computer program proficiency level : Intermediate
  • Must be able to attend night meetings and training if necessary.
  • Must be able to travel out of town to attend training and conferences that could require overnight stay for up to one week.


Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

  • Assists daily student arrival and departure process, relieves staff for breaks and lunch periods; provides classroom supervision as needed.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.
  • Manages workload, record-keeping and documentation; maintains accurate child files including content in each program.
  • Plans parent involvement activities.
  • Supports early education and promotes health and wellness screenings. Completes regular and follow-up contacts with families to determine progress in programs.
  • Provides immediate support for families that are facing crisis or difficult situations by developing plans to overcome barriers, provide resources, and assist with referral information.
  • Recruits, enrolls, and registers children and families for the Head Start and Early Head Start Program. Supports families of enrolled children in transition to Head Start and Kindergarten.
  • Makes home visits to form partnerships with families; identifies family strengths and areas of needed support through Family Needs Assessments. Develops Family Partnership Agreements that outline steps, objectives, and progress toward family goals.
